Workshops

There's always a workshop for everyone at GNUF

The workshops at GNUF this year are the best yet! We have programmed a wider range of workshops than ever before. There are exciting new ones covering topics including wellbeing, teaching ukulele and working with visually impaired players (to name a few). We’ve also brought back a few favourites requested by festival goers (ones that regularly sell out).

The workshops are held around town at the Lawrence Batley Theatre and next door at The Parish.

You must have a valid festival ticket to attend Saturday and Sunday workshops. Workshops on Friday and Sunday are open to all.

Day Long Retreats

Ukulele Teaching & Learning with Peter Luongo

Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to spend a whole day working Peter Luongo (President, Langley Ukulele Association). This is the last chance this year to learn in person from the world’s leading ukulele teacher.

This is a day of participatory learning covering a range of subjects key to teaching and developing your ukulele skills. There will also be time to hear from and work with Peter directly in this classroom-like environment.

The day will cover:

  • Ukulele in the Classroom: A Complete Program
  • More than one way to play the Ukulele: Introducing Finger Picking
  • Exploring the Benefits of the Ukulele as a Harmony Instrument

Strumalongs

Tyrone is coming all the way from Australia to be at GNUF, and wants to ‘Strumalong’ with you!

‘Strumalong’ is a song about ukulele groups, written to be played by ukulele groups – if you’d like to bring your uke along to the GNUF Saturday night concert and Strumalong from your seat, feel free to explore the  Strumalong PlayAlong video below and  Instructional Materials  which unpack Strumalong chord by chord and also give you a song sheet and audio. There’s a Sunday Strumalong workshop which will enable you to get to know the song even better. Enjoy

The Commentators

This wandering duo played a blinder on the Friday

Once stalwarts of the radio, whose voices brought major sporting events into the nation’s living rooms, The Commentators have fallen from favour. Now they bring their commentary skills and unquenchable enthusiasm to commentate on every and anything except professional sport.
